Ian and Kelly's Favourite Movies
We're not saying the movies listed below (in no particular order) are necessarily the best movies ever made, but we never get tired of watching them and that's what counts.
The Top Ten
- Blade Runner
The best sci-fi movie ever made and what a great cast - Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, Daryl Hannah, Brion James, Joanna Cassidy, Edward James Olmos, William Sanderson and M Emmet Walsh. Based on a novel by my favourite writer, Philip K Dick. Atmospheric, intelligent and has a brilliant soundtrack.
- Fargo
Yah. Features the Coen Brothers's brilliant screenplay; the brilliant acting by Frances McDormand and Steve Buscemi; humour; excellent cinematogaphy and wonderfully bleak landscapes.
- Thelma and Louise
A classic featuring Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon on a journey of empowerment and the beautiful south-west countryside of the USA.
- Unforgiven
Clint Eastwood's epic western featuring the always brilliant Morgan Freeman, Gene Hackman and Richard Harris. The duck of death!
- She's Having A Baby
One of the funniest movies ever made with Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth McGovern. The bedroom scene, the lawnmower scene and the barbecue scene are all classics.
- Face/Off
Brilliant non-stop action scenes and great over-the-top acting from Nicolas Cage and John Travolta.
- It's A Wonderful Life
Essential viewing ... I've watched it every Christmas eve for as long as I can remember.
- Raiders Of The Lost Ark
The classic action adventure with Harrison Ford.
- Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Need a laugh? The this is the movie for you featuring Matthew Broderick, Mia Sara and Alan Ruck.
- Pulp Fiction
Quentin Tarantino ... you either love him or hate him. This is brilliant and what a cast ... Sam L Jackson, John Travolta, Uma Thrman, Bruce Willis, Ving Rhames, Eric Stoltz and Christopher Walken.
Other Favourites
- Reservoir Dogs
When I first saw this I was amazed. The Madonna Like A Virgin scene is a typical example of Tarantino's dialogue.
- True Romance
Written by Tarantino and starring Christian Slater. Vicious and funny at the same time.
- Mars Attacks
Nyuck, nyuck. Maligned by some (one person in the cinema where we saw it said it was the worst movie he'd ever seen) but we think it's hilarious. Starring Jack Nicholson
- The Shawshank Redemption
The best feel-good movie there is. If you don't feel uplifted after seeing this there's something wrong. Starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman.
- Excalibur
The best King Arthur movie there is. Atmospheric and it features the best soundtrack of any movie.
- Star Wars
Sci-fi Classic. May the force be with you.
- Get Shorty
Look at me! John Travolta is brilliant (again) along with Gene Hackman, Danny de Vito. Written by the brilliant Elmore Leonard.
- Raising Arizona
What happens to Nicolas Cage and Holly Hunter you wouldn't believe. Another Coen Brothers classic.
- Tremors
Best of the B graders! Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward face off against a giant worm from outer space.
- A Fish Called Wanda
K-k-k-ken! Starring Kevin Kline, John Cleese, Michael Palin and Jamie Lee Curtis. This always makes us laugh.
- The Ref
What a funny, well-written movie starring the brilliant Denis Leary with Kevin Spacey and Australia's own Judy Davis.
